VIGLA CANYON

25 ROUTES, MOUNTAIN PROFILE

Crag info

Vigla Canyon is located about one kilometer southwest of the village of Zakros. It is far from the sea, which makes it windier and less hot even during summer days. Due to the orientation of the crags to the east and northeast, the best time to climb in the summer is afternoon. Vigla belongs to a local group of rocks surrounding the villages of Xerokampos and Zakros. The limestone in the Vigla canyon is of excellent quality. Currently, only a small part of its potential is used for climbing. Climbing routes are located in a sector called Katalava by the locals. This sector is divided into 2 parts: Central Katalava and Right Katalava.  The solid rock is fully equipped with bolts and anchors at the end. Length of routes is 10-35m. The difficulty is between 5b-7b. Routes in the Central part are mostly on sloping slabs or vertical walls, only occasionally slightly overhanging. Routes in the Right part are a bit more overhanging.
